RUNNING OUT OF FRESH WATER

Today in science we continued on are notes about how much water we have, use, what country has the most, and the country that has the least.
71% of the world is covered by water, while 97.5% is salt water and 2.5% is fresh drinking water. if we run out of fresh water we will need to pay to disstile the salt water too fresh water to drink.
The top 5 countres with the highest mount of fresh water is -Brazil -Russia -Canada -USA -Indonesia, the 5 countres with least amount of water is -Bahrain -Qutur -Malta -Maldives - Nevis. The average person drinks and uses about 80 to a 100 gallons of water. And that's what we leart in are notes about fresh water.

Ocean Tides

What Are Tides?
~The rise & fall of ocean water.

                -Caused by gravitational activity

~The highest tide movements appen when the earth, moon and sun line up

                 -Highest gravitational pull

                 -Called spring tides

-Only on a full moon or new moon

~The smallest tide movements happen when the sun and the moon are at right angles to one
another

                  -Little change

                  -Called neap tides

New Unit!

Today in science we started a intro about are new unit the Water System. In this unit we are going to be learning about what happens to rain when it falls, were does water in your taps come from and will earth one day run out of water.

This is a video we watched today it shows how much water is needed to make one burger.

This is a good pictue we used to show us how the water cycle works.

Through the eye of Bill Nye

This morning in science we watched a Bill Nye video about eyes, and filled out the following questions. (answers are in Blue)

1. Nerves connect the eyeballs to the Brain.
2. The iris controls the amount of light that goes into our eye.
3. The eye gets protection from the eyelid /eyebrow
4. The optic nerve is about 20cm long.
5. If the eye is out of focus then images appear blurry.
6. The lenses changes shape so the eye can focus.
7. Rods and cones are the cells/nerves that make the image on the retina.
8. Cones allow the eye to see colours and bright light.
9. Colourblindness means there is plenty/not enough of light sensitive pigments on the retina.
10. Being blind doesn't stop people from doing things like walking and playing.
11. The eyes turn in to see how far away or ow close an object is.
12.If you lose an eye a doctor can make a(n) artificial.
13. Above the eyelid are the glands that produce tears.
14. An optical illusion is your brain and playing tricks on you.
15. the eyeball is the size of a ping pong ball.

Colours in Grade 8 Science!!!

Today in Science we talked about colour to review and practice for our test sometime in Feburary!
We talked about Primary,Secondary and Complimentary colours.

The three Primary Colours are Red,Green and Blue.
If you mix two together you get a Seconday Colour.

The Secondary colours are Cyan,Magenta and Yellow.
Cyan is made of green and blue, missing red.
Magenta is made of red and blue, missing green
Yellow is made of red and green, missing yellow.

We are also talking about Colour Filters,
(ex)Start with a red filter, followed by a green filter.
The green filter only transmits green light...
But no green light gets through..
the light will appear black!!
We also did practice with white boards on Colours and Objects.

Solve this: What happens when a red object is hit by a green light?

reflexing clours

hello!, today we are talking about colours reflexing off of another colour and makes a diffrent colour.

Monday, January 19, 2015

today in Science we are contuining our notes about colors.

Complimentar Colors:

- A secondary colour and a primary colour and
create white light when mixed together.

-Red+Cyan = white light

-Green+ Magenta

-Blue  +  Yellow

Example #1

Example #2:

If a red onject is hit by green light it creates yellow light
